It did create some metal shavings so be mindful to vacuum prior to moving as those suckers can cut. Problem: Caps when not using the legs I stacked two units would not go in even a bit to start the hammering. It didn't matter how hard I hit the plastic foot it was not going to go in. After I lost the top of a thumb nail I decided it was time to cut. Solution: First I took a boxcutter to the bottom line on one side hoping that would give me enough hold- nope. Cut off the second row on the same side and that did the trick.
I was able to push it in far enough to give it a good wack with the hammer. Problem: Joining screw holes for stacking have the same issue as the legs with one hole punched but the other still closed. Solution- I'd use the drill again but for now industrial velcro is doing the job swimmingly.
One other note-be sure that the fully exposed holes in the bottom are at the front for the door pin. I got that one wrong.
Here's the good news- once I got my work-arounds going the whole assembly took less than 10 minutes. It's really a pretty cool design. These doors are magical!
Easy to put in, level, close and open with no issues and all it takes is a pin and a modified Allen wrench. Maybe you had or will have better luck with your unit but if not, I hope these tips might ease your experience. So, would I buy them again? Absolutely with no hesitation- so long as I had a few extra tools around.
Great space Kimme Easy to put together but the legs do not line up with the drilled holes. Great features! Overall, fantastic for the price and looks amazing under my record player. It's the right size and I like the magnetic closure for the doors. Also there's a little hanging bar inside on each door for keys or a cleaning rag for my table tops. Each filing cabinet is different, so you must figure out which direction to turn your tool before you unlock the cabinet. To do this, move your paperclip to the left side, and then try the right side. You should easily feel the correct side when you move the paperclip. When the paperclip easily turns to the side, you found the correct unlocking position. Turn your paperclip the correct way to unlock the filing cabinet. To unlock the cabinet, move the keyhole into the unlocked position, based on your individual cabinet.
To do this, either turn your paperclip clockwise or counter-clockwise. Once you move the keyhole to the correct position, remove your paperclip from the lock.
To unlock these cabinets, move the paperclip counter-clockwise to position the keyhole horizontally. Pull on the handle to open your filing cabinet. Once the keyhole is moved to the correct position, the cabinet is unlocked. Simply slide open the cabinet by pulling on the handle to access the inside.
Method 2. Use a nail clipper file with a curved tip as your lock pick. To use the filing tool, locate a pair of nail clippers that has a tiny nail filing tool. Most of these tools have a curved tip at the top of the file.
When you are ready to pick the lock, slide the file out from the base of the nail clippers. Move the file until it is straight, and hold the file where it meets the clippers.
Insert the filing tool into the bottom of the keyhole. Hold the tool up to the bottom of the keyhole so the curved tip faces downward, and push the tool into the keyhole as far as it can go. The tool should easily slip inside the hole, and most of the file should go inside. Turn the file back and forth to determine which way to unlock it.
Move the file clockwise and then counter-clockwise so you can find the correct way to unlock the cabinet. When you find the correct position, the nail file easily slides that way. You'll feel the filing tool slide into place. With a little practice, you can get the hang of it. For many filing cabinets, you can turn the nail file clockwise, like you would your key.
Jiggle the nail file up and down gently to release the locking mechanism. The nail file fits almost perfectly into the keyhole.
